Stanford is a friend to contractors. He grew up working for his grandfather's building supply company and in his cabinet shop. His father was educated as a civil engineer and enjoyed a career as a State Highway Engineer, a Community College Instructor/Administrator and General Contractor specializing in kitchen and bathroom design and construction. Following in his father’s footsteps, Stanford taught the same Architectural Design and Construction class at the local Community College.  As an undergraduate, he worked one summer as the Engineer at a sawmill and another summer for the University Physical Plant as a Plumber’s Helper. Stanford is an accomplished builder, carpenter, finish carpenter and cabinetmaker.
